Elizabeth Haddon and John Estaugh to Visit IKT

On Saturday, April 13, 2013, First person interpreters will portray Elizabeth Haddon and John Estaugh as they discuss Haddonfield’s rich history and what it was like to settle this historic town. The presentation will begin at 2 p.m. In addition, the Tavern will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with docents telling the story of the Indian King Tavern. Seating is limited for the 2 p.m. presentation so come early.

2013 Beer Tasting – 3 Cheers for 300

The Friends of the Indian King Tavern will be holding our second beer tasting at the Tavern on May 18th this year. Two hundred and forty years since Haddonfield went dry we will again serve beer in the yard outside the Tavern. This year’s title is 3 Cheers for 300 in celebration of Haddonfield’s 300 anniversary. The price is $40 and includes a buffet from the British Chip Shop of Haddonfield and Colonial style ales for tasting. Oysters from the Pour House in Haddon Township will also be sold at a Buck a Shuck. Last year we sold 800 oysters. Wow! Proceeds from the event will be used by the FOIKT to support the Tavern. Tickets are limited to 100 per seating for the three seatings. More information to follow.

March 9th – Levram the Great Colonial Conjurer (Magician)

On Saturday, March 9th, 2013, Levram the Great Colonial Conjurer (Magician) will give two performances at the Indian King Tavern Musuem at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Seating is limited to 40 persons per performance. The Tavern will also have an open House 1 p.m. – 4p.m. Come join us for this exciting event.

Annual Meeting and Board Elections

The Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Indian King Tavern will be held on November 30th, 2012 in the law office of Joseph Murphy at 30 Tanner St., Haddonfield, NJ at 3 PM. The purpose of the meeting will be to elect new officers. Currently nominated for office are: Joseph Murphy for President, Thomas Diemer for Secretary/Treasurer, and Karen Mazak as Director. The Nominating Committee consists of Margie Diemer, chair, William Brejcha, and Patricia Radrownski.

A COLONIAL BEER TASTING EVENT WAS HELD ON MAY 5, 2012:
ALTHOUGH WE COULDN’T HAVE IT INSIDE THE TAVERN WE CELEBRATED ON THE GROUNDS OF THE INDIAN KING TAVERN. THE EVENT WAS A SUCCESS AS MORE THAN 270 PATRONS ONCE AGAIN ENJOYED COLONIAL STYLE BEERS, FOODS, AND MUSIC WITH HUGH CREIGHTON AS HOST IN THE BACKYARD OF THE TAVERN. FOOD FROM THE BRITISH CHIP SHOP IN HADDONFIELD, RAW OYSTERS (A COLONIAL FAVORITE) FROM THE POUR HOUSE IN HADDON TOWNSHIP, AND CRAFT BEERS FROM YARDS BREWERY HELPED TO MAKE THE DAY MEMORABLE. A SPECIAL PERMIT WAS ATTAINED TO SERVE BEER IN HADDONFIELD, A TOWN THAT HAS BEEN DRY SINCE 1873. PROCEEDS FROM THE EVENT WILL BE USED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE INDIAN KING TAVERN TO SUPPORT THE TAVERN. IN 2013 TWO BEER TASTING EVENTS ARE BEING PLANNED, MAY 18,2013 AND IN SEPTEMBER.

Indian King Will Participate in State History Fair

The Spirit of the Jersey’s State History Fair will be held on Saturday, May 11th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Washington State Park in Titusville, NJ. Admission is free with a $5 parking donation.

The Friends of the Indian King Tavern will be at the Fair with an Indian King Tavern display. Garry Stone, a Friends’ Officer, will also be representing the Monmouth Battlefield. Come join us for a very interesting day!

The State History Fair has an array of activities for people of all ages. A Juried Art Exhibit, Colonial Conjurer Magic Show, Tuckers’ Tales Puppet Theater, Antiques appraisal, a GPS Cache Challenge, a visit by Martha Washington, and open hearth cooking are just a few of the activities available. There are numerous other things to do and people to visit at the Fair to help you travel back in time, including our very own Indian King Tavern. For more information, click here.
