The Skirmish

The British to Invade Haddonfield, NJ Saturday, June 4, 2022

Festivities begin at 9 am with The Skirmish beginning at 2 pm.  Event is Free and Open to the Public.

HADDONFIELD, NJ – The British are coming!  On Saturday, June 4, 2022 the British will invade and be challenged on Kings Highway by colonial troops.  Redcoats, on horseback, will charge, muskets will be fired, and the Continentals will delay the redcoats before they head off to the Battle at Monmouth.  General Washington had ordered the militia to “annoy” the Redcoats, and so on June 4, 2022, we will again.

This exciting reenactment event is free and open to the public. The day of activities begins at 9, and the Skirmish begins at 2 pm. The day’s events include many other activities such as a Yelling Contest, Colonial Dancing, Pillory Prisoners and Character reenactors. Plus, Soldier reenactors will be available to meet visitors before and after the Skirmish. There will be plenty of sidewalk space for viewing and cheering along Kings Highway and the conflict should take about 20 minutes.. Also, tours of the historic tavern will be offered all day.

The Skirmish is hosted by The Friends of the Indian King — a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization — which works to preserve and advance the Indian King Tavern Museum, the first New Jersey State historic site, and raise public awareness of the museum and its educational programs. There will also be interesting events leading up to the Skirmish including a debate between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton,
